WJMC Day 3: Exploring D.C. and its Monuments

Today was probably the most draining day so far. We began our trek by visiting the National Geographic headquarters, and met the editor-in-chief Susan Goldberg. She discussed their social media tactics, and also gave us a sneak peek of NatGeo’s future projects. I was blown away by their iconic pictures and the vast lengths that their photographers went to capture these breathtaking images. Afterwords, we went to a quaint Italian restaurant called, “Bocca di Beppo”. The food was sub par, but the friendships that I made while sitting for two hours with my peers was fantastic. Later we listened to two speakers in Arlington speak on bias, and career paths in journalism.

The second half of our day consisted of eating dinner and visiting DC’s beautiful monuments. At that point I was completely exhausted from traveling through the 97 degree heat in jeans, and grateful to get on that bus back to the dorms. Though tiring, these are experiences that I won’t forget, and I look forward to what tomorrow has to offer!
